SECRET OF JAPAN'S ECONOMIC SUPERPOWER

Wartime destruction left cities crumbling through out japan. More than half cities of the homes in Tokyo had been destroyed. Agricultural production also suffered , as bad weather left rice harvest at only two third the pre war level.
  With the end of the war came the need to rebuild. As in the past, the Japanese learned from outsideers. They selectively borrowed western ideas and technology and put them to their own use. In time, japan emerged as an economic superpower.

Recovery and Economic Miracle
In 1945, Japan lay in ruins. It had suffered perhaps, the most derastating property damage of any nation involved in World War II. Tens of thousand of japanese were homeless and hungry.
Under General Douglas MacArthur, the Americans millitary government set two main objectives for the occupation of Japan-to destroy millitarism and to ensure democratic government. To achieve this first, japan's armed forces were disbanded. As in Germany, trials were held to punish those responsible for wartime altrocities. In 1946, a new constitution was created.

Between 1950 and 1975, japan recovered and produced an economic miracle. Its gross domestic profit (GDP) soared. japan success was built on producing goods and services for eaport. At first, the nation manufactured texiles. later it shifted to producing machinery.
By 1970's, Japanese cars, cameras, and television set found eager buyers on the world market . japan benefited from an educated, highly skilled work force . Until recently some Japanese companies guaranted lifetime employement for their workers . In addition, some Japanese workers saved much of their pay. These savings gave banks the capital to invest in indusrial growth. 
As japan economy expanded,it invested in ventures around the world. when a tire factory was to be built in west Africa, the enginners were likely to be japanese. United state threatened to raise tariff on Japanese importers making them more expensive for American consumers. That threat was designed to open a door to door bilatral relashonships between two countries.

Changing Pattern of Lives
In the past 50 years, japan has enjoyed many economic achievement. However, japan faced alot of economic fiasco. The Asian financial crises were undermind confidence.
Japan is one of the great countries in the world in terms of technology due to their industrial enbodement.
